This just built on everything I loved in the first book. So far, this series has been one of the best at weaving together interesting suspenseful plot threads with solid relationship and character development. This book isn't super long but somehow I have a better grasp on so many elements: where Levi and Dominic are at in their relationship, their career paths, their personal development, the lives of their friends/family, the overarching serial killer plotline...it's so impressive.

Also, I love that the characters in this series are so MATURE. Petty relationship comments that would be throwaways in other books are addressed head-on. Should be bare minimum behavior but is deeeefinitely not. While I loved both Dominic and Levi going into this book, I was definitely more of a Dominic girlie. And while I still love him, this book leveled the playing field with how it developed Levi. The prickly exterior/good-hearted interior combo will always win me over. Ugh so good.

Another hit! Scared because I feel like some not good things are coming soon, but I'm so excited to read more

Um that ending??!??? JAIL.
Also, this series is everything to me

DNF. Good premise and I like the character stereotypes here, but I could NOT stand the dialogue. The author writes her characters’ inner monologue and dialogue as aggressively PC as if to make it perfectly clear that they’re not bigoted, which leads to very stilted and awkward writing. Like, yes, I KNOW your character is not a homophobe or transphobe and that’s great! But you don’t have to hit me over the head with a frying pan every time the topic arises.

EDIT: Okay, okay, okay, I LIED. I just couldn't let this series remain unfinished, so I resumed it later that day and, BOY am I glad I did because the rest of the series gets a LOT stronger (and MUCH better written).

I am a huge fan of Cordelia Kingsbridge. I'm not sure I've read anything of hers that I didn't like, so when this series began, I was super excited. And I really enjoyed the first book but I think I enjoyed this one even more. We got to know the characters so much more and see different aspects of them, not to mention more of Levi and Dominic together. But really, it was that ending that got me...and still has me waiting on edge for the next book of this series!

3.75 estrellas.

I am living!

There’s no greater feeling than blowing through a fast-paced mystery full of great characters. Seriously, such a satisfying read it pains me to tear myself away from it.
