Oliver found that he was surprised, not that Turner was involved in any kind of cloak-and-dagger enterprise that required leaping out of windows under cover of darkest night, but rather that he wasn’t apparently very good at it.

I went to Cat Sebastian trying to find a light, funny and heart-warming short love story. I was not disappointed at all! Oliver and Jack's romance was indeed lovely, and even the miscommunication endeavours were not super dramatic and fit the general atmosphere. I loved the secondary characters as well, especially all the women, and how women protecting women drove the entirety of the plot. I wasn't super invested in the mysteries, but they were nonetheless well written and managed to surprise me enough. I'll be reading the rest of this series, I think, because Cat Sebastian's books really manage to capture my attention in a non-too-deep storyline and I definitely need that in these difficult times.

Cat Sebastian has done it again, this was absolutely lovely and filthy and so gay in all the best ways. It was also like well rooted in history without taking away from the happy ending and had so many moments of witty humor that had me giggling. (Seriously Cat Sebastian's dialogue is top notch)

I liked this book a lot but I got annoyed by the repetitive nature of the conflict - Oliver says or does something that annoys Jack, then immediately leaves, then decides he was wrong and goes back and apologizes, they argue a bit then all is well, rinse repeat like a million times. By the third or fourth time I was rolling my eyes, like, "Again, really?" On the other hand, this book made me want to go back and read the next book in the series again so that I could see Jack and Oliver again now that I know their backstory.
