I rarely rarely say this but... the film was better than the book. The story is simple enough, and I watch the film every year as it really makes us laugh, but there is something about reading this story where the characters just came across as so unlikeable. They complain about everything and pick faults on their surroundings. It doesn't feel like a quirky-yet-lovable character that we would expect to find in a comedy, but rather a little more rude and standoffish. It feels like a huge whinge-fest and not in the Christmas spirit at all. That underlying warm fuzzy festive feeling that is so trying to push through, is just lost to a list of complaints. So gutted.

I've seen Christmas with the Kranks and really liked it. The book is pretty cute. They kept a lot in the movie that is in the book.

Fun little Christmas story. Luther is such a great character. He's so funny, and yet somehow relatable.

Sappy ending tacked onto a book rife with the worst of keeping up with the joneses. Rife with casual racism/sexism and suburban white people "problems".

Short and cute.
Since I saw "Christmas with the Kranks" years ago and many times over, it was hard not comparing this book to the movie. The book can be read in about an hour. It seemed like the minimal amount of storytelling happened here . . . just enough to tell the story without expounding on anything. It was pleasant but I couldn't get into it the way I prefer. I like to get engrossed in my reading. This almost read like an advertisement for a bigger novel. Nothing wrong with it, just not much to it.

Riusciranno a fuggire??

Finale scontato, ma nel complesso il romanzo è carino.
