Okay, this was a lot of fun, and I learned some history about Japanese ghost/yokai lore. If you read this, be sure to read all of the front and back matter, as it really highlights the work of the group of people who put this together, and it's just interesting. This is not super scary, but it's dark, perverted, and made me alternately sick and laughing. Which is a big win in my book.

It doesn’t really get much more finer than Anthony Bourdain and Japanese folk stories packaged up in horror. A true lover of Japanese culture slipping easily into the graphic novel format.

Ok so this wasn’t what I was expecting it seemed less about tales of food and more about s*d*my and general body horror I also just found the stories to not be fleshed out very well but the artwork was phenomenal and the recipes in the back just over complicated enough that I will never try them but they were fun to read

An entertaining set of horror stories concerning food and chefs, with bonus recipes from the much-missed Anthony Bourdain.

I love the idea of this graphic novel. The stories themselves are quick, snappy reads, and I’m always a sucker for incorporating classic monsters from folklore, so this should be a slam dunk. Unfortunately, it’s just too short and snappy. I wish some extra depth had been given to the framing device. It felt very superficial, and I think it would have been cool to explore that a bit more than they do. There were also a few artistic choices I tried to find meaning in, but couldn’t figure anything that made sense to me.
