I really liked this book! I finished it in a day lying tin the Scottish sun. That being said I felt like there maybe wasn’t as much character development in this book as I would have liked. It started with a number of the characters voicing some issues and I felt like they were never really resolved? The exception to that is the new character who I really enjoyed and found an interesting addition to the gang. It’s nice and a welcome read. I just felt like there could have been more you know?

Wow. Read this in two days. Loved every second of it. (Yes, even the last sentences, and you know I hate that kind of thing.)

As with the first book in the series, there were one or two parts written with intentionally difficult to understand narration... unlike the first book, I felt it worked. (My guess is that what was happening was easier to discern in this book, in at least one case because we’d just already seen what was happening from another character’s perspective.)

I also really loved that we got to learn more about the magical world at large in this book than in Carry On.

Cannot stress enough how sucked into this book I was. Not exactly sure why, but definitely was. Can’t wait for more!

My family had to preorder the kindle version & but the hardcover just so that all of us could read it immediately and at the same time. It has led to lovely dinner table conversations with my husband & kid, sharing our delight, comparing chapter progress, and trying not to spoil each other about the next swoony moment, laugh-line, or imminent peril.
More, please!

This book was a huge disappointment, especially after how much I had loved Carry On. Almost everything I loved about the original was missing from this book. A compelling adventure or mystery? Nope. They’re just trekking across the cornfields of America for no reason. And even when they stumble upon a purpose at the end of the book, they extract their friend from danger without in anyway addressing the root reason she was in trouble in the first place. Characters to love and root for? Everyone is just depressed and grumpy. It may be realistic, but it did not make for enjoyable reading. Interesting world building? Nope. We’ve left the world of magic and now we’re just on a roadtrip in the most boring part of the US. (I can say that, I’m from the Midwest. Haha.) Beautiful love story? Absolutely not. For no reason, the main characters’ relationship, which we barely got to see at ALL when they were happy, has fallen into awkward tension and stays that way the whole book. It’s just painful and frustrating to read.

I thought it could have been really interesting to follow Agatha’s story more (she was the only one with interesting things happening to her for awhile.) But she was surly and unlikable the whole time, and we spent very little time actually exploring the danger she was in.

I really hope book 3 is better.

Ever since I'm reading Carry on, I am so anticipated reading this. I am really feel good but I need more.

So this is a continuation of Simon Snow and Baz story. As the adventure carries on, they taking a trip to America. Starting from Penelope's plan to look for Agatha and meeting her boyfriend. The misadventures ensue. From meeting Shepard, the normals who keep following them to meeting the biggest vampire hideout in America.

I love how the relationship between Simon Snow and Baz but I need more of them. The plot is too focused on how they stranded in nearly every place. It is quite hard to see them in peace as many chaoses than giving the focus for their relationship.

As for Penelope, I think there will be magic between her and Shepard. There is a quite strong development in their characters. Even though they have a lot of misunderstandings at the beginning of their meet.

I cannot wait for the next installment, and hoping more about Simon and Baz and maybe a happy ending for both of them?
