I absolutely love the whimsy and playfulness of Tolkien's poetry, so this was a delight to sit down and read in full. The Pauline Baynes illustrations are also gorgeous in the edition I have which isn't present on Storygraph, and I was too lazy to upload it, lol. If you are the type to skip the songs and poems in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, this book is not for you, but if you are someone like me who delights in Tolkien's poetry, I think you will love this.

Even in a book with his name in the title there isn't as much Tom Bombadil content as we all desire, but otherwise this is delightful.

“There is an inn, a merry old inn
beneath an old grey hill,
And there they brew a beer so brown
That the Man in the Moon himself came down
one night to drink his fill.”
Published in 1962, The Adventures of Tom Bombadil, is a collection of poetry, that contains 16 poems, two of which feature Tom Bombadil - the funny and peculiar character that we can find in The Lord of the Rings - and the rest are an assortment of bestiary verse and fairy tale rhyme.
I really liked this book! Its peculiar, like Tom, but the verses can be quite beautiful in their own way. This is something that I really recommend reading after reading The Lord of the Rings, since some poems are featured in the trilogy!

Tolkien is the only one I would read poetry for. I love his books so I thought that I would give this a try. It was a good book but not something that I would read again.
