Finished this play in a matter of hours, devouring Rowling's plot with the same intensity and affection I did each of the other Potter books. I was not let down, and for that I am grateful.

As a stand-alone book, however, I wasn't entirely impressed. Very few characters existed solely for this reincarnation, and even fewer of them were interesting. If I could give it a 4.5, I would for that.

I’ve heard very mixed reviews about this book which prevented me from picking it up for a while. Does the Cursed Child have flaws? Yes. Did it still ignite my inner Potterhead? Well, yes. My biggest issue with The Cursed Child was it’s treatment of Harry. Some of Harry’s lines and actions were incredibly out of character. The play also reduced Ron to being the nonsensical comic relief. True fans of the HP books know that Ron has always been an intelligent and integral member of the golden trio. What saved this play for me was Scorpius, Draco, and nostalgia. Not only does the play introduce the wonderful character of Scorpius, but Draco finally finds redemption! Revisiting the Wizarding World 19 years later certainly invokes nostalgia with so many call-backs to the original series. Despite the play’s flaws, I still found it enjoyable to read as a Harry Potter fan.

While I understand fully why some might not enjoy this book/play. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a window into the future of many of the beloved characters from the Harry Potter universe. As always I am left wanting more and to see how all of the other children have turned out I was left satisfied as a whole.
