Aw, man, Hadley and Calder, and those two precious girls have my heart.

"...'You're like a fire that lives inside me. Even when I thought it was all burned out, there were still embers that lived in my bones. They'll always be there, and I wouldn't want it any other way.'"

Falling-Embers-by-Catherine-Cowles

Falling embers is a romantic book where Hadley falls in love with her brother's best friend. They used to be close, but a tragedy tore them apart. Now Calder is a single dad of two girls, and Hadley lives a double life.

Hadley had been in love with Calder for years. He was the one to give her a piece of freedom when he took her up a mountain. He showed her that there was a way to get on a bike and let yourself fly. Then Calder’s life turns upside down, leaving him alone to care for his twin girls. Hadley wanted to be there for him, but he kept pushing her away. When Hadley’s life was in danger, he stepped back into her life. Will they bridge the gap and build back what got broken between them? Old embers got rekindled, and the flames might cause a lot of damage.

This is the second book in the Tattered & Torn Series. It has a mix of tropes, like a single dad, a brother’s best friend, and friends turned enemies (ish) turned lovers. It also has suspense, which I love about Catherine Cowles’s books. Along with the romance, you get family problems and jealous exes. To top it all off, someone was after Hadley and even Hayes, her sheriff brother, had trouble figuring out who it was.

Calder’s relationship with the twins is a heartwarming one. They are so cute together. Hadley keeps getting jealous of Abbie spending time with the small family, but the twin loves her dearly. Her love for them is clear about how they react every time they see her.

Everything about Calder and Hadley screams angst, but it also screams true love. They are perfect together. I loved how Hadley would just tell him what was wrong instead of trying to figure things out on her own. Despite his ex’s attempts to bring her down, she didn’t just accept it. If there was any miscommunication between them, I wouldn’t have enjoyed this book this much. But they don’t keep things from each other, and that’s what I admire most about their relationship.

From book one, it was obvious that her mother was always harsh on her. She would let all her other siblings do almost everything Hadley does and wouldn't say a thing about it. But when it comes to Hadley, she is against everything she does. It’s easy to see that she loves and worries about her daughter, but she’s going wrong about showing it. Hadley endured a lot of pain and hurt to keep her family together. It was nice to see the beginning of fixing this broken family.

I’m planning to read every other book Catherine Cowles has put out there. I can’t get enough of how beautifully written her books are. They make you cry, break your heart, and put you back together. Her books combine suspense and romance perfectly. It’s easy to say that Catherine Cowles is my favourite romance author.

Catherine does it again! Falling Embers is an incredible single dad, suspenseful romance that’ll make you feel all the things!

I’m absolutely in love with Calder and his protectiveness. I’m also in love with Hadley!
