I think this was my fifth reread - it never gets old. I love this book so much.

Lowkey mad that I wasn’t into contemporary stories as a younger teen because this would’ve helped me process my issues wih my family so much quicker.

This book *so* perfectly captures those teenage feelings of insecurity about whether your friends like you, and whether they’d even notice if you disappeared. Francesca struggles with her sense of self versus how she’s perceived by others, and that disparity between the two is teenagehood in a fucking nutshell.

This book also accurately captures the struggle of having a parent with depression. The kids are expected to parent themselves, yet neither parent trusts that they’re old enough to know the truth about what’s happening. There’s such a feeling of frustration and impotence that I can personally relate to, and Melina Marchetta captures that *perfectly* - right down to the fights with the stoic, emotionally unintelligent, and often absent father.

Highkey think that Will is an absolute dickhead though, so that arc can get in the bin.

the book has it moments of cuteness and bittersweet but I think it just wasn't for me. the writing was too monotone for me and I found myself not caring about any of the characters so I ended up skimming through half the book. it wasn't memorable for me in the slightest.

it's kind of crazy to think about because of all the raving reviews I've seen about this book but this book just didn't leave a big impression on me like I expected it to.

" -Vorrei soltanto che tutto tornasse come prima
-Niente tornerà più come prima, Frankie. Ma tu devi assicurarti che le cose vadano avanti, non indietro."

Bella coming of age story, dialoghi simpatici e leggeri, amicizia tra personaggi maschili e femminili anche quando non sono in una relazione (ikik incredibile), ma il ritmo era un po' troppo veloce e i personaggi un po' stereotipati. Lato positivo però c'erano un sacco di Mommy issues (RTC)

I didn’t quite know what to expect going into Saving Francesca. I don’t know that I had ever actually read the description. I just knew two facts, it’s by Melina Marchetta and lots of people love it. That was all I needed to know. I’ll admit the it did take me a few chapters to fall into it, but after that I was completely captivated.

Saving Francesca is a coming of age story. A believable and very, very realistic one. Francesca is sad. She’s had to change schools and leave all of her friends behind. Her very vivacious mother isn’t getting out of bed anymore and her father isn’t doing anything about it. Basically Francesca feels alone, abandoned, but she doesn’t whine or complain. She tells her story with dry wit and honesty. Her voice was probably the most realistic I have read in a long time. I would go so far as to say that she is one of my favorite characters ever.

What I loved most about the story is that it has this quiet, subtle feel about it. I don’t really know how to explain it, but by the end of it I was just in awe of the beauty of the story. I also loved that we as readers see things that Francesca doesn’t really pick up on. Like how she is making friends. Really, really good friends. I loved them all. They were an odd assortment.

The romance is also a little subtle. It happens slowly and it was one of those that melted me. Just about every scene with Francesca and Will made me feel all warm and fuzzy.

I loved this book. I can’t recommend it enough. Please read it. My review doesn’t do it justice at all. You need to find out for yourself.
