really good book for adventure lovers with a passion for dilemmas in the 1800's like racism, slavery and more. this book depicts incredibly the growth of huck finn and how he starts realizing that black people (especially jim) are humans too and should be treated like so. tw: this book is in fact a bit controversial because it uses hard language (the n-word) but sadly at that time it was normalized. the book also features two con artists who by complicating huck's life, make him grow as a person. this book explores themes of freedom, racism, friendship, love, morality and more. this book morally, helps us see between right and wrong and how huck decided what was right even though to a group of people it seemed like wrong; it put inequality aside and humanity first.

I came straight from Nick Offerman's delightful reading of ".. Tom Sawyer", and I just could not get into Elijah Wood's voice. I'm a fan of the actor, but something about his accents just took me out of the immersive experience and I had to move on. May revisit.

There's something about Twain, and it's difficult to identify. He can set a narrative pace that carries the reader along, draw up an adventure that both sustains and surprises, and he does this with the simplest language. With Huckleberry Finn, he even does it all in vernacular as Huck, the narrator, makes it a point to emphasize at the beginning that Mr. Twain wrote the first book and that HE was writing this one. It only further highlights Twain's seemingly effortless mastery.

Huckleberry Finn as a protagonist reveals a much more complex character than the version presented in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer in which he seemed no more than a simple-minded yet generally well-meaning unfortunate son of an abusive drunkard. He can fool anyone with a lie or a trick but at the same time he is the most honest type of boy. Huck's rafting adventure down the Missisippi River and his parallel moral development is something to behold. His close brushes with danger, his reflective times of repose, and his disappointments with the evils of man lead to what has become one of my favorite endings in all of literature.

This book was alright. I understood the point of this book, and why it was considered so controversial, and is now an English standard. I'm glad that I am done reading it.
