Is it a dog? Is it a shark? It is both! Meet Shark Dog!

I finally had a chance to read this book, and boy, I wish I could have read it earlier. It was just so much fun, seeing the adventures this little kid and the shark dog have.

It all starts with our boy and his dad out on a trip when during the night a shark dog hops on board and thus their adventures. Because, of course, why not take a shark dog with you onto the land? What could possibly go wrong?

Well, for most the shark dog is just like any average dog, though I guess his strength is a bit too much. RIP that tree! And my head immediately went for the Jaws theme song when we saw that page where the shark dog was following a cat in the tall grass. Plus I laughed so hard when they went to the beach! More Jaws theme song!

I did feel for our little dog though, he is quite lonely. Which isn't so strange given he comes out from the sea and has no one on land who looks like him. I loved what the kid and his dad did, not often do you see that happen. Or at least I should say without a fight. I have read enough books in which the kid is holding a big tantrum, but this kid seems to understand that his new friend needs his family and friends.

The ending though warmed my heart! Aww, I am guessing there will be many more adventures with our shark dog, and I can't wait to read them.

The art was just fabulous, i just love how everything is drawn, especially our cute shark dog!

Silly and goofy book about having a shark-dog as a pet. A little too small for a read aloud, would be better one-on-one.

Super bland. I didn't really see what the point was to this book. Not sure why this was nominated for the Young Hoosier Award.

Shark Dog is a curious mix of shark and dog, which often leaves him feeling out of place. Adamson's illustrations and story are both funny and heartfelt; readers will feel for the lonely little shark dog. The story's resolution is sweetly hopeful and will leave readers wishing for a shark dog of their own.

A very unique story about a very unique pup... um, shark? Dog shark?
SHARK DOG!!!

Oh my, my boys and I continue to have so much fun with this book - every time they spot Shark Dog they literally have to point him out and exclaim that they found him, and then the giggles ensue uncontrollably...

While a boy and his dad are traveling and find a strange island to explore, the boy cannot help but feel that they are being followed. On their voyage home, he finds one of the island's unusual animals - a half dog and half shark. "He seemed friendly enough", so they decided to keep him and Shark Dog quickly becomes a beloved pet who captures the hearts of most everyone around him. Even when he creates a bit of confusion and chaos out in public before everyone realizes that he is just a friendly animal like most other pets... even when sometimes he did shark things, he was more like a dog, and vice versa. But no matter what, Shark Dog was always happy.

So when Shark Dog becomes homesick, his new family does everything they can to make him feel better and decide to take him back his "real" home. Shark Dog is happy again... until the boy and his dad has to say goodbye. Will Shark Dog stay with his family, or go home with his new family?

A wonderful take on the unique relationships between pets and their humans!

Shark Dog is a HUGE favorite around here! My son loves dogs and my nephew loves sharks (and most things about the ocean) and this was the perfect book for them to enjoy together - lots of giggles and turning back the pages to make sure that they didn't miss any details in the fun and brightly colored illustrations! (Ged Adamson's style is one of our favorites!)

We recommend this book to all ages - to all the ones who love to laugh out loud and feed their imaginations!
