Ojoj vilken bra bok!

A book revolving around Leia and New Republic politics may not seem all that exciting at first glance. However this novel is the opposite and provides an exciting story while showing just the kind of person Leia is. As well as revealing how the Resistance came to be.

Princess Leia is probably my favorite fictional character and this book added so much further to that love for me. She is older here but back in the Senate (which is a delightful and kind of sad reminder to Claudia Gray's other spectacular Leia book) and trying to help stop the New Republic from an immediate downfall. Those of us who have seen the sequel trilogy know how that plays out with the First Order and we get to see the beginnings of that in this book (as well as in the Aftermath trilogy). Ransolm Casterfo and Leia have one of the best dynamics I've had the pleasure of reading recently. I am so disappointed to have learned that his appearance in the movies was scrapped because he would have added such a new perspective especially given where he ends in this book.
Another excellent addition to the new Star Wars canon from Claudia Gray.

Princess Leia really is my favorite and this book helps solidify it. Seriously loved seeing more of her acting in her political roles and the dynamic between her and Han, even at a distance.

Few Star Wars novels have ever managed to sound mature. The setting is an escapist fantasy, after all, and gritty realism seems to be at odds with that at first glance. But this new canon manages to stay true to the spirit of this universe and its characters even while it paints a complex picture of the New Republic's gradual downfall. Not to remnants of the Old Empire, not to evil invaders from other galaxies, but to internal conflict. Leia's disillusionment mirrors the reader's, and while this certainly punctures the heroic ending of "Return of the Jedi", it explains how things arrived where we saw them at on "The Force Awakens". The only thing that still eludes me is why Luke Skywalker did not play a more active part in shaping the galaxy. The novel describes him as a withdrawn recluse, long before tragedy hits.
