Wow. I was absolutely blown away by this beautiful book, the characters, the story, the time slip(s) and AUs, and what it means to heal. Absolutely gorgeous work.

Heartbreaking, then beautiful, then heartbreaking, then hopeful, etc.

This was an incredibly hard book to read. Melissa Baron did an absolutely phenomenal job putting the reader in the mind of the characters, especially Isla. I suspect that I struggle myself with mild anxiety (undiagnosed), and I could feel the spiraling thoughts and my own stress levels elevated in response to what I was reading. It’s not a bad thing exactly, but pay close attention to trigger warnings before reading this book. They are not lying. I didn’t even notice it honestly (totally my bad, it’s the very next page after the dedication, which I always do read) and thought I was picking up a sweet time-travel-esque romance. It is that, but it is so, so, so much more. It’s one woman’s incredible journey through, and with, mental illness to a place where she can find some semblance of peace and self-love.

This is the first book to have me silently sobbing in the middle of the night.

Because it’s a romance novel, the ending is predictable given the genre but that didn’t make it any less impactful.

At times, I couldn’t stop crying because it felt like my own thoughts and emotions were on the page. This is the most accurate depiction of anxiety and depression I have read… well ever.

I am so thankful this book exists. What a lovely, tender story.

The pet names are atrocious. The main character is unrelatable. This dude is waaaaayyyyy too much and the conversations are not engaging.

Normally I love time nonsense but this is not for me and I DNF.
