It was okay. I liked some aspects but found it was a little too odd and got really heavy handed with the religious allegory stuff. I really thought the ending was a little much in terms of length though the 'surprise' at the end wasn't all that surprising. The only thing that made me think that that wasn't the case was that I thought it was too dark, but I guess he wanted to go that dark.

The Dwarfs are awful and the way the Calormenes are portrayed is yikes.

Alright I’ve slept on it, let’s dive in.

This book followed Jill and Eustace again, and even though I warmed up a bit with them, they still aren’t my faves. The elements of this book were a lot darker, and the themes of religion were so obvious it was annoying. I didn’t mind the religious themes in other books because it wasn’t ever really main stage (except for maybe magicians nephew), however this novel was over-the-top in Christianity. There was a lot of decisions made in this book that I didn’t like at all, and overall I was disappointed in the ending. Also I was hoping to leave the racist depictions of Calormenes in The Horse and His Boy, but they were in this one and it was MUCH worse than the previous novel. That was another big yikes for me.
