Holy shit monkeys!

Ok I was so worried after the first 3 books I read in this series that there wouldn’t be any characters that I fully loved or connected to. I liked them but I never LOVED any of them. It was a good story, but I wasn’t obsessed with it UNTIL FRIGGIN NOW!

Rowan and Manon literally saved this series for me. Bringing back the world of magic, epic training and fun banter, off the chain chemistry between characters, AND friggin WYVERNS?!?! Epic and cool and just awesome. It was so so so so much fun!

I liked Celaena Sardothian… but Aelin Galathynius is a friggin badass and I wholeheartedly stan. Her growth in this book was outstanding.

Chaol is a coward and the fact that I ever compared him to Lightning McQueen is a real kick in the pants. Lightning never deserved such disrespect. 🤦‍♀️

Dorian, my poor sweet little baby. God I hope that necklace gets removed and you don’t need to be beheaded to be freed. I’ll be so pissed if your head gets the chop!

And Aedion, stop crushing on your cousin and I’ll find you more appealing. Hope you don’t hjget executed for being a traitor and get to once again kick ass.

And finally, to the king of Adarlan, suck a big fat egg and choke.

Overall, this book slaps, your honour.

Omg what a massive book in the TOG series! It took a while for me to get into this book with the switching perspectives (and so many different characters to focus on too) but I eventually got used to it and loved having so many different characters to explore. Like every Mass book, the last third is just chaos and action-packed but it just makes it so much fun to read! Loved this book.

One thing SJM knows how to do is write an insufferable character with one hell of a redemption. Celaena has been through a lot of pain and strife, but her being mean to Emry’s and Luca was pissing me off. Her getting on her knees and begging forgiveness was the only way for me to not be totally done with her.

Her relationship with Rowan was weird. They’re cousins and she was noticing his “muscled back.” When she was getting overheated at the spring festival and he gave her some air she “moaned with relief” like girl…what in the sweet home Alabama is going on??? I hope that’s where the weirdness stops with them two.

Chaol was trying to play both sides but luckily he chose right in the end.

The king is a bastard and for him to do that to Dorian in the end and how he did Sorcha??? That was crazy. He needs to burn in hell.

Maeve was annoying and she lost Rowan so…yay I guess. And she knew to surround herself in water incase a descendant of Brannon came back but Aelin showed her just how useless that was.

When the Valg princes feasted on Celaena’s fear and then her family surrounded her saying, “Get up” I was literally crying. Such a beautiful moment.

I hope Aedion is ok because THAT last scene was nuts. Arobynn better NOT give Celaena any problems when she ask for her necklace back…but he’s a monster so I know he will.

Now Manon’s storyline…I won’t say which book and author [allegedly] stole directly from this bar for bar…but it was VERY similar to one of my favorite series and that was a little disheartening. This new series damn near went bar for bar down to the war games, wyvern, communicating with your wyvern, Imogen, Manon wanting the strongest one but then getting the weakest one(but not really weak), her motherly figure being a complete asshole…it was a bit much for me. The witches are really cut throat and I personally just wanted to get back to Celaena or Dorians storyline the entire time. It was a lot of POV jumping and that was annoying but…this is a long and well thought out series so I’m sure everything will tie together seamlessly.

But…I will say that the Cochran witch made Manon open her eyes to the person that she was; so it’ll be fun to explore that in the next book.

I’m excited to get through the SJM universe, still.

i absolutely LOVED like chap 40ish to the end! the rest was very boring for me.

i really tried to care about Manon, and i had moments where i would get into the whole wyvern story. i know in the next books i’ll find out why her story is so important, but the fact that we’re just now following some rando witch is hard to grasp. i also thought the story line with dorian and sorscha was very forced. did i cry still? yes. it felt like she was just added to create character development for dorian. maybe if we were introduced to her way earlier in the story, like when they were getting healed in the past. or maybe even waited until next book to kill her, cause her development felt very rushed in the last few chapters she was in.

i did laugh and cry, and do my “i’m enjoying this” move where i set down the book and kinda have to talk to myself about whatever is emotionally hitting me.

the killing of all the slaves really got me. usually in books i don’t cry unless it’s about deaths of specific characters, but this was horrific. it’s also maybe me reading it with the timing of Palestine being in the news constantly that really got me emotional. thinking about something that horrific and realizing it’s literally happening to mostly children in real life. oof.

I felt like the beginning of the book dragged a bit, but as always with sjm books the second half of the book was a whirlwind. I thought the progression of the story was interesting, and am eager to pick up the next book in the series.

Excruciatingly boring, pov kept changing to different stories in the book, had characters suddenly shoved in that I didn't know enough to care about. Had a hard time finishing
