I enjoyed the illustrations, but apart from that this book has nothing to offer.

OMGGM! What total adorableness!
And the cute little guys even crochet.
Sweet, with little text, and lovely illustrations.

A definite recommend to anyone who loves beautiful children's picture books.

The story didn't really go anywhere.
The cover says, "Three unlikely friends. One extraordinary day." Got the 3 unlikely friends, a bear is probably not doing to be friends with a snail. But an extraordinary day? A bit misleading.

I thought I was with this story showing different approaches to life until the end, and then I just didn't get it. And looking back at it, I'm not a fan of it. Illustrations are great, but I didn't get the overall story or the character names or the point being made.

My least favorite set of characters by Cronin. They're missing her wit and personality.

I was disappointed in this contribution by the fantastic Doreen Cronin. I read the book through once and was unclear on its message, its plot and any relation between the characters: boom, a bear; Twitty, a bird & Snot, a snail. The subtitle on the cover above the title reads " Three unlikely friends. One extraordinary day.

For me, the idea that these three are friends was lost; they seemed more like acquaintances who happened to be in the same place at the same time--like when your mom has a meeting, drags you along and you play with the other kids that are there...because they are there. There was no emotional connection in the text, although Twitty & Boom do snuggle up to sleep (with Snot sitting nearby) in the illustrations at the end.

After reading it the first time I was confused and read the inside flap of the cover which expanded the subtitle a little more: "Three unlikely friends, and three different ways of being in the world. This simplest of stories is a fable for life.

This made the text make more sense to me as a whole but really didn't help me connect with the story or characters any more deeply when I read it the second time. If I was going to read this aloud to young children (unlikely, but I might in a pinch) I would have to make sure I did some set up to have them view the story as a fable for observing differences and the springboard into the discussion or activity we could have following the story.

Again, this one was a disappointment for me.

Love the illustrations just like I love Renata Liwska's other books- The Quiet Book and Red Wagon- but the story just was ok.

So I think these three are friends and Snot is the one that makes the best of any situation while Boom and Twitty...don't? Are they really friends? Why didn't admit try to get the other two to join in her adventures instead of letting them struggle? Why did the other two go off to cuddle and leave her to read alone?

Am I missing something about this trio?
