DNF at 55%

I have liked this while series but this book is horrible.  There is no reason for his over possessiveness. He is way too overbearing. He embarrasses her over and over again and none of it is cute.  I kept thinking he would realize how he's acting and drip the attitude but at this point in the book I don't think it'll happen.

I would have DNFed by the 40% mark at the latest if I were not reading this for a book club.

Meg was trapped in a controlling marriage on Earth and viewed being abducted by aliens as a rescue. She is thrilled to finally have the opportunity to explore and make her own choices. So why is she saddled with the most controlling punitive “hero” this series has produced so far? I felt so bad for her that she was stuck with this lout who was determined to force her compliance and publicly humiliate her for perceived infractions at every turn. He physically restrains her, overpowers her, and carries her off, which bystanders see as “cute” but I’m pretty sure the FBI would view as kidnapping. Chapter 16 was downright rapey. He is absolutely awful.

His attitude does improve somewhat in the second half of the book, but frankly, it was too late. There was just no redeeming him in my eyes at that point. Furthermore, the reasons for his turn around were too flimsy. I couldn’t buy it.
She doesn’t yell at him when she finds out he’s been systematically stealing and hoarding her stuff, so now he’s able to trust a woman? He found some old clothes the humans were wearing when they were abducted and that made him realize for the first time that kidnapping women for breeding is bad?
Am I supposed to be impressed? That should be Ethics 101, not a shocking revelation, for a full-grown man.

The political intrigue was by far the best part of the book. Unfortunately, it doesn’t really kick in until near the end and isn’t near enough to save the reading experience.

3.5 stars? I liked the second half much better than the first half. The first half definitely crossed the line a little for me on my comfort with the whole possessive, "you're my mate so you're MINE AUTOMATICALLY" thing. It was a LOT. It didn't go SUPER over the line, thankfully, but it was definitely uncomfortable. Once Maxu calmed down a bit, it got better. The ending finally advanced the background plot a bit, which was interesting, although a cliffhanger lol. I assume there's going to be another book, so I'm curious who it will be about.

UHM what? Major unexpected cliffhanger! To say i’ve become fond of this world is an understatement. As such, reading every book has been a joyous experience!!

This one gave more of an enemies to lovers vibe, which was refreshing! A little bit of cat a mouse games were shown through the relationship of Maxu and Meg. The inner battles of both of them were established and explored through their relationship as they opened up to one another, becoming accepting of their inner struggles and past.

Now for the plot…what is going on!!! Totally didn’t expect that. I knew the overall plot was going to move along more at some point but like that?? WHEW. What is going to happen going forward?! I’m excited but fearful to know. I genuinely enjoyed this book and the ending, hence why i’m giving it 5 ⭐️. On to the next book, IMMEDIATELY!
