A fast paced book that is dark and creepy. It had a couple of twists at the end, which I usually like; however, I thought the book would have had "more punch" to the end if the letter and last chapter had been omitted.

Couldn't put this book down. The imagery in this book gave me chills and made me look over my shoulder late at night. It'll have you questioning everything.

Verity can be page turning, but it was not mostly like that for me. Maybe Colleen Hoover was a little too hyped, or maybe I've read better written books, but this very popular modernized version of Rebecca/Jane Eyre did not do it for me. With trigger warnings for child abuse abounding, as a new mother I was very turned off by the autobiography chapters of this book.

I've heard Verity is unique from Hoover's other books, so maybe I'd give her another try, but this book felt like she was writing to a mass audience who needed to be sensationalized and hit over the head with certain points to remain engaged and understand the story. Right away I noticed that none of the characters could be trusted, which made the twists easier to figure out and the disbelief ever present when information was presented. It seems like Colleen Hoover is a great author to engage people who aren't regular readers who are trying to get into reading, and I think that's great to have. For those who are avid readers though, Verity might not be the book to pick up.

Not my usual thing, and not edited very well in the version I read. There are some books that find us and give us hope that we can write something publishable. This was one of those for me. While the writing wasn't great, the story was okay.
