It was a good thriller but 100% reads like a YA (which it is so no judgement. I don’t think I could handle an adult true thriller because I am a wuss at heart) I feel no real attachment to the characters which doesn’t mean they were poorly written I just never clicked with them.

The emotions all seemed heavy handed and forced. Emma’s trauma was probably written very accurately, it seems like the author did a lot of research, but my eyes just glazed over the pages worth of describing her panic.

I don’t know. I don’t want to be mean because it was an enjoyable book. It was a quick and easy read aside from the two incredibly graphic murders that were described. It was fun but it wasn’t AMAZING. Does that make sense?

Finally a good crime audiobook. While I've read the silence of the lambs, this didn't follow it completely, so it was still a pretty gripping crime thriller.

Ellie Marley’s writing is beautiful. I highlighted so many lyrical moments. Shout out to the part mentioning Texas sunsets 💕 The frustrating thing that I couldn’t get over while reading is the fact that this book is rated as “young adult.” Icky.

This is the easiest five stars I have ever given to a book. The plot was amazing and included so many twists and turns I just did not see coming and the characters were incredible, especially Simon’s character was so complex and intricate. It’s also worth noting that though this book is set in the 80s, the setting is weaved so expertly into the story that the time period is not at the forefront of the story (unlike many other stories set then).  100% recommend this book to anyone who likes crime and serial killers, but also for fans of Karen M. McManus’s One of Us Is Lying, Silence of the Lambs, Mindhunter, the Sinner and any other book/movie/show in that same realm.
