Crown of Thorns was an okay bully/enemies to lovers romance.

In this, you will meet Phoenix and Josslyn. At times, I liked their whole push pull kind of romance but the bullying part was all kinds of predictable. Once you saw a little bit of the girl hate.. you know what's about to be unleashed.

As for the drama? Eh, I rolled my eyes a bunch and this book definitely gave me a bunch of people to dislike. I just kind of wish things weren't that predictable. I still, somehow, ended up reading this within one sitting but that's because I'm sucker for books.

In the end, I think I will dive into the sequel.. but right now I'm not putting it at the top of my to do list when it comes out.

Fans of EM Snow’s Angelview Academy series will be wholly satisfied with Crown of Thorns, the first book in Snow’s Thornwood Prep series. Though it’s not necessary to read the AA series prior to starting this book, it’s highly recommended for context and to give insight into some of the characters who also appear in this series.

Josslyn Luna is caught between a rock and a hard place. Her older brother stole from the powerful Townsend family, and he offered Joss as collateral as he tries to pay them back. Enter Phoenix Townsend. Brutally beautiful and inscrutable, Joss can’t help but be drawn into his web as he forces her to move into his family's mansion and be beholden to him in various ways. Even as she loathes herself for her fascination/compliance.

Crown of Thorns has been greatly anticipated by Snow’s fans, and the wait was well worth it. I found the back half of the book to be the most interesting, and silently cursed as Snow leaves her audience on a whopper of a cliffhanger. I cannot wait to see how this tapestry unravels. I have no doubt it’ll be excellent. Bonus points for a burgeoning female friendship between Joss and Reina that feels anything but ordinary.

An ARC was generously provided by the author in exchange for my honest review.

Did not see that coming

I didn’t realize this was connected to the Angelview series. I kept thinking some of the names sound so familiar so that’s why. I’m conflicted as to how I feel about this book. I admired Josslyn’s strength but I hated the bullying done to her. Her schoolmates were just cruel. As for Phoenix, he still has a long way to go before he can redeem himself in my eyes. This book ends in a cliffhanger and I need the next book because the suspense is making me crazy!

A girl's criminal brother steals from the family of the richest and cruelest boy in her school. The boy forces her to live with him as collateral until the brother pays him back. This book ties in pretty heavily to (and has spoilers for) this author's other series, Angelview Academy. It sorta works as a standalone but would be more enjoyable if you've read that series. Nothing really memorable here. Phoenix was crazy, Josslyn had no spine. The twist at the end was okay, but I doubt I'll read anything further from this author.

ARC review

First off this book is great and ties to the Saint Angel series. This book is moderates with dark and bully themes but nothing too hard. I felt like it set up the trilogy great.

Beware it ends on a cliffhanger though!!

Both main characters are strong and stubborn in different ways. It was great seeing both grow through this book and upsetting that we still have so many questions!! Can’t wait for book 2!
