Jojo Moyes knows how to tell a story. Like Liane Moriarty, she often has some incisive observations about women at midlife and their hopes and fears. "Someone Else's Shoes" follows two women, one fabulously wealthy and the other decidedly middle class, and the fallout in their lives when one of them mistakenly grabs the other's bag at a London gym. Along the way, we meet their teenage children (one sassy, one listless), their best friends (one Black, one a cancer patient) and their husbands (one depressed, one cruel). Moyes keeps the story moving along and juggles several subplots with flair, but ultimately she tries perhaps just a bit too hard to find a satisfying ending for everyone.

This was enjoyable! A bit predictable but well rounded characters and development. The audiobook narrator’s American accent was a little wonky but certainly didn’t take away from the book.

Cute book. I liked the development and growth of most of the characters throughout the storyline. Some parts of the storyline were infuriating to read, especially the relationship between Sam and Phil, and Sam’s boss being the most obvious.

4.5 stars for me! I really enjoyed this! This felt very much in line with classic Abbi Waxman or Amy Poeppel books. I loved the found family aspect, the kooky shenanigans, and the heart and warmth and friendship that brought everyone together. Definitely recommend if you need a lighter read that’s uplifting and fun!

Read this for a bookclub. One of my least favorite authors; I would not have read it on my own. Mildly entertaining, but forgettable.

This book is pure mind candy and is a great beach read. It's like eating cotton candy - yummy but devoid of any substance. Still, it's a fun story, Everyone gets what they deserve and deserves what they get. The characters aren't complicated or nuanced at all - the bad guy might as well have been twirling his moustache while tying a helpless damsel to the train tracks. Still, it's a fast-paced, engaging story. You know how it's going to end, so it's just a matter of each character overcoming the many hurdles placed in their way, and you just go along for the ride. I finished it in a day. Sometimes it's nice to read a book that requires absolutely no thinking and offers no challenges of any sort.
