The first book I've read in a long time that slowed down time while I was reading it.

The best book I've read this year. The way friendship is framed is so unique and hard to find, it was so refreshing and touching. The discussions on race, disability, sexism, etc were so compelling and real. The characters were so flawed and so lovable. Life isn't a game, we don't have a second chance at life, eat some peaches with your friends and everything will be okay even when it isn't.

I cannot remember who or where recommended this to me but I was not expecting it to be so sad. Maybe it was just a bad time for me to read this but I just ... bleh. It wasn't even like... cathartic sad. It was just sad.

Definitely check out the content warnings before reading this one because some of them came out of left field. I'm usually a horror/thriller reader, but there were a few scenes that were so jarringly dropped into this story that I got uncomfortable.

OUCH.
Spoiler My only complaint was how little we got from Sadie during the last quarter of the book. But now that I write this maybe that was fully intentional. We would get Sam’s side of the story often when he was really going through it, so I was waiting for Sadie’s side to come and it never did. I could be wrong though and maybe her side wasn’t necessary.

I absolutely understand the hype behind this book.

It has so much nostalgia and the characters were so easy to fall in love with.

It was a bit of a slow read, spanning nearly thirty years, but it has a lot of heart 🥹
