This is the first book that I’ve read that everyone highly recommends and I’ve found underwhelming.

Within the first few pages the unnecessary use of higher tier vocabulary annoyed me. It was like the author wanted to show off some words they’d learnt without considering the characters she was writing about.

I read the book easily but it felt like it was both about everything and nothing at all. Sam and Sadie were incredibly annoying. I just was not as amazed by the book as everyone else appears to be.

At first I hated it because the main characters are so incredibly annoying and I didn’t like them. But after a few chapters I started really loving it. They are annoying in the way people are annoying and while I definitely wouldn’t want to be friends with any of them it’s a beautiful story about love that I really enjoyed.

It was a decent book, but I would not say it blew me away. I can't say whether that is because of my high expectations, or because of the book itself though.

What a beautiful, unique exploration of friendship and love and grief and growing up. Putting my thoughts into words is difficult, because they're so nebulous, but I can say I loved my experience reading this book, always wanting to pick it up and getting sucked in whenever I did. I wanted to love the characters, especially Sam, more than I did, but isn't that how life is? I'll be thinking about this one for a while.

There were some things I didn't like of the writing, like the constant time jumping or the excessive details of side characters. Then I read other comments to see where the book was heading and decided to cut my loses.

I wish I could read this book again for the first time. Absolutely spectacular.
