Another charming read. The mystery itself was a bit muddled, which is why I gave it three stars, but I loved returning to these characters and plan to read the rest of the series.

Only 3% into the book and the amount of fat phobia is astounding. I’m not finishing this.

Book 2 of the series is still as delightful as the first. I don't usually like this type of series but I am so enjoying all of these characters. If my to read pile wasn't dangerously close to toppling over I would get book three at the library.

If you are looking for a quick easy read with some great characters then pick up this series from Louise Penny.

I love Louise Penny mysteries.  I love Three Pines and Armand Gamache and Jean-Guy all the other characters.  I am really enjoying this reread.

I thought the mystery in this one was particularly good and poignant.  I loved her descriptions of the cold and the food and the characters.

One thing I didn't love that stood out to me was the fat shaming.  I hope that Penny was using the fat shaming in a way to show how heartless and cruel the characters who used that language were, but it wasn't clear enough, and it would have been better to avoid that language all together.  The way we talk about others peoples' bodies has changed quite a bit in the last twenty years.  That is evident in some of the ways she describes the characters--gay, POC, fat.
