Watchers by Dean Koontz

I found the family dynamic between Travis, Nora and Einstein to be very charming however I found all the characters except Einstein and The Outsider (who was very Frankenstein’s monster-esque) to be quite cliched and two dimensional at best. Vince was the worst offender. I know, “he’s the bad guy, you’re supposed to hate him” but even a bad guy should have more about their personality than ‘bad guy’. Okay, that’s not fair, he had a Hollywood movie psychopath ‘quirk’ too. Did that make me like him better? Nope. Not even close.

I’m going to rewrite this book in my head where it’s just the cute family scenes and The Outsider learns friendship through watching My Little Pony videos.

My first Dean Koontz book, so it holds a special place in my heart. It is perhaps my second-favourite of his novels just below "Twilight Eyes".

I wasted a perfectly good Audible book credit on this. One day I may get around to writing a proper review, but, for now, suffice it to say that everything you've ever read about what makes a Dean Koontz book so bad has been stuffed between the covers of this one. Stay away from it, if you give the slightest value to your reading time.

I didn't love this book and I really should have. It has all the elements that I love, but the writing was so annoying, and I have read lots of Dean Koontz books and liked them. Nora is a pathetic character, who I wanted to get killed so I wouldn't have to read about her anymore, and Travis is a cliché without any substance.
Einstein is great, but he is let down by the humans in the story.
