C+nto (such a clever title) is a love letter to butch women and butch bars. Joelle Taylor is a word wizard - I am in awe of her talent - and her words made me fall in love with them, too. I knew basically nothing about butch culture prior to this collection, so I really appreciated both the glossary and its location at the front of the book. Some of the poems were heartbreakingly achingly tender, while others were fuelled by and inspired righteous rage. They are deeply personal and unabashedly political. I absolutely loved this collection for what it taught me and what it made me feel. Anything Joelle Taylor writes I'll read.

"let us walk alone at night /& let the night not follow us"

A powerful, beautifully expressed, and at times brutal collection

This is a very moving collection.

Exploring queer history, safe spaces, butch identity grief and loss, what it is to live in a state where being queer is illegal. Physical and sexual violence.

As you can tell from my description this is not an easy read but, if and when you are up for it, Joelle will repay you in spades.
