Really cute take on YA superheroes/marvel while including the normalcy of LGBTQ+ lifestyles. I'm not sure I'm gonna continue with the series bc marvel isn't really my thing, but I was happy to read this one.

Over the top, fun, emotional, ridiculous, and just a bit extra.

Incredibly humorous and light hearted, related with more than one character, loved that many of these characters were complex and not just one dimensional. I would have liked to see more Extraordinaries outside of just Shadow Star and Pyro Storm because the universe this is written in states that Extraodinaries are very common but it’s hard to convey that with only the two superheroes fighting one another. Hopeful that the second book expands the universe more deeply!

This book was really fun to read, it was funny, the characters are charming and I loved the relationships between them. This is my first book by Klune but now I'm excited to dive into his back catalogue.

The characters were relatable, so much so at several points I had to put it down and take a deep breath before I could carry on due to second hand embarrassment. I loved Nick as a narrator especially his lack of impulse control and his awareness (and disappointment) that he is the comedic love interest and not the hero. The secondary characters were well written and the relationships between the friendship group were so wholesome.

The plot isn't the most complex but that was fine, as to me, this is a character driven book. The pacing was a little slow in places but despite this every time I put it down I ended up picking it straight back up again.

Although the book didn't finish on a big cliffhanger (which I really appreciate!) there are still several unanswered questions and I'm excited for the next book in the series.

Revisited this after a few years on audio so I could dive into the sequels. I still enjoyed this and thought that the narrator for the audiobook was great. This time reading I was struck by how cliche it was, and I think it tried to be self-aware, but I don't think it was self-aware enough. Still interested in reading the sequels, which I will do soon!

I bought this book on a whim, after reading house on the cerulean sea, and I had great expectations. The Extraordinaries is a nice book, but possibly would be most enjoyed by teenager who can better relate to the char cters or by highschool trope lovers. The plot was okay and I would enjoy the next instalment in the series. Still, the characters are well written, the main character is so annoying that's almost endearing. Definitely recommend to young adults and teenagers!

i’m giving this a biiiit of grace by saying two stars ‘cause it’s been a hot minute since i read this but i did NOT vibe with it. mc has adhd which is great, i also have adhd, but it was written in such a hard-to-follow way and i didn’t like it? i’ve read other books that have done that better. and all the characters were kinda flat and/or annoying, the twists were predictable (decently foreshadowed, though, so i’ll give it that), and it just… ugh.

i don’t know if, since i went into this immediately after the house in the cerulean sea, my expectations were too high?? or if this is because it’s a ya/teen book???
