Well, this was one long ride. I like the web comic version more though (what was published so far), maybe because the writing was very descriptive and repetitive, and it managed to jar me out of the story more than a few times, and the web comic drawing are oh so pretty and could compensate for anything 😅
The aspect of the story that deals with Penelope's trauma and her relations with her family was intense and sad. It was not exactly a revenge story, more a story about vindication. In that aspect it worked well for me.
The latter part (the side stories) that dealt with her romance were strangely out of character for all parties involved and I didn't enjoy it as much.Callisto suddenly behaving obsessively was very out of character and it didn't suit him. He was my favorite throughout the story because he at least seemed to really see Penelope for who she is, without preconceived notions or expectations, and despite her "reputation". Then she decided to stay in that world for him, and he becomes so anxious she is going to leave him, going as far as imprisoning her in her room. That, and the physical violence (namely, Penelope grabbing Callisto by the hair and pulling it very violently to show her frustration) was OTT to say the least, and it left a bad taste in my mouth.
In all I'm looking forward to the rest of the story in web comic form, and I'm grateful I won't be left with cliffhangers anymore 😂

This was so good, I can't wait to read season 4 of this.
I'm such a sucker for isekai manwhas and normally the plot is always the same and often dragged out but this had an element of uniqueness to it. I love how Penelope "the rabid dog of Eckhart" is truly a villainess. She's not a doormat who like many other fls often gets walked all over and forgives everyone just because of a few nice things. Penelope isn't stupid either, she knows what it's like to struggle and live in hardship as in her previous life she wasn't treated much better than Penelope. In some regards, I would say her previous life was even harder than the one in the videogame.
She tries everything she can to get out of this alive and truly understands the motives and feelings of the real Penelope. She's smart enough to know when to back down and when to actually speak up about her feelings. Despite the affection scores dropping, she doesn't stop and truly expresses her feelings. Yes, most of the time it turns out that what she did was in favour of her but she didn't know that. She was strong and resilient enough to know when to say something. She also doesn't just disregard the real Penelopes feelings and just accept useless apologies from people that didn't care about her before they switch happened. She having already lived a very similar life previously really elevated the way she made choices in the videogame. I love how she actually had a solid background to her and reasons unlike many other isekais and in my opinion that differentiates this manwhas from the rest.
The mls were all also really interesting. Personally my favourite is Callisto and I'm really hoping he's going to be the one that she ends up with and from the way that I'm seeing things, I'm really seeing the ship sailing in the future. Or maybe I'm just seeing things because I want to push this certain narrative in my mind. I love how Callisto is psychotic, a lunatic and often times quite unhinged. Despite all of this, he teases Penelope a lot and has a really good sense of humour. Whenever he comes up, he always brightens the mood and adds an element of humor to something that sometimes can come across as a little depressing. He's also got his reasons for being this way. He wasn't born like this and to a certain extent, he could be considered a villain as well. This aspect of him, where he can relate to Penelope can quite a bit, makes me think of him as the perfect endgame. I really don't see anyone better for her. Also, unlike other characters, he never seems to doubt and always looks for her innocence before just pointing fingers at her uselessly. It always made me so happy when he came on screen, I would even go as far as saying that he's my favourite character.
Although this was really good, I do have some criticisms. Often times, It was quite predictable. Even the plottwist at the end of season 3 was very much foreshadowed and predictable. It also felt like Penelope was a little too overpowered at times. No matter what she does, it never seems to go negatively for her and when in the rare circumstance that it does end up happening, she quickly recovers from the crisis and everything comes back to normal.
Apart from this, I would genuinely say this is one of the best isekai manwhas that I've ever read. Certainly the best one that I've read recently.

Listen I'm all for the MC girlbossing her way through the plot and not taking any bullshit from men, we love to see it! But idk I just think telling someone (an underage teenager) over whom she holds a position of power (her literal slave), who she knew was brainwashed, manipulated (by herself), and overall extremely vulnerable to kill himself while he was having a mental breakdown is not the slay everyone else seems to think it is.
I dropped this at ch 196 once it started becoming apparent the narrative would not address this and I'm glad I did because according to spoilershe gets antagonized until the end, dies for his former slave owner (MC), and no one even grieves for him. Poor kid deserved better idc.
I was enjoying the manhwa a lot until I caught up (ep 144 at the time) and switched to the novel, but now I regret reading this at all tbh. It even made me want to drop the manhwa too. From what I remember the manhwa did make some subtle changes that improved the story, so hopefully it does a better job with the rest because :/

I love this story! It's one of the best in the isekai trope.
The main character is interesting, her emotions and decisions play a big part in the plot. Her relationship with the love interest was so fun and emotional to read! In the half of the book, the plot suddenly took a shocking new turn, which was unexpected, random but not unwelcome. It focused on magic, mysterious followers of Laila which quickly took a dark turn. Also, the other romantic interests had distinctive personalities and often quite shocking decisions. It's a great story, whether you read it as a novel or manhwa.
(But I have to agree, the translation was REALLY bad and confusing. You have to brace yourself for that.)

i feel insane considering i read the entire novel in three days. there had to be crack in it or something. but seriously genuinely such a good story. i read the webtoon and wanted to see how the story finished without waiting for the webtoon to finish, and i wasn’t disappointed. i also feel like this ended giving actual closure to everything that happened and didn’t leave any loose ends which was nice.

read almost 2000 pages of bad translations and i still loved it
twas nice.
I liked the story a lotttt up until the bday ceremony thing then after it got meh. maybe because I switched from the comic to a imperfectly translated version of the novel. I'll still keep up with the comic so hopefully it's better with the visuals and without the mistranslations.
personally not a big fan of the main ships relationship. I don't rlly like tsunderes idk I'm hoping she's actually nice and loving and blah blah and it just came off cold with the mistranslations
also pregnancy troope :/
anyways this and many other reasons is why it isn't a 5 star :]
