The only reason this one doesn't get 5 stars is bc it is rly only nominally a romance - Nevada and Rogan spend very little time on page together bc they're too busy solving a mystery and getting engaged and preparing for Prime trials and having multiple instances of literal urban warfare. That said, this book still rips just as hard as the others in the series!

I cannot overstate how interesting these books are on the level of craft - the battle scenes give a sense of the chaos while still having choreography that reader can track, you get the exact right amount of world building/lore for things to make sense and not an inch more, and every character gets a brief but memorable description that tells you both what they look like and what vibe they give off. Within 3-4 sentences you know everything you need to know about everyone who showd up on page, even really peripheral people. I truly think these books are low-key masterpieces and I am fully hooked - I will now be moving on to the rest of the series, which revolves around Catalina. Strongly recommend!!

This was a quick read. The plot is constantly going, and I am obsessed with the characters. So parts are dark, but it has many funny moments.

This is top-tier Urban Fantasy for me. I have never wanted a series made into a TV show more than this one - the visuals the books provide are stunning & intricate that I want to see it all on a screen!

Once again, Nevada & Rogan shine and are the ultimate couple. We're given an OW conflict in this one, but I found it was handled much better than the one that was in Magic Rises. The key? COMMUNICATION, people! Nevada & Rogan actually act like adults and talk to one another, and it makes me soooo happy.

I'm interested to see how the next trilogy goes with Catalina as narrator and if we'll get more fleshing-out of the rest of the family, in particular Bern & Leon.

Dark, violent, militaristic. Not romantic.
