This book was spectacular. I really like Jandy Nelson’s writing style, super complex (just like the characters) and I feel like it gives more depth to the story.
There is no good way to describe the emotions you will experience while reading this. I do truly believe that going in blind is the best option, if you know anything about the character’s. The learning experience of these characters won’t be as exciting.
I found all the characters very relatable. Even though I’ve never been in love, never grieved over a loved one, etc. I think that’s what I like most about these characters. You might have never experienced the things they are/were experiencing but you still relate to them on some level.
The connections I felt with the characters and the book in general was unreal. Anytime a character cried, I cried. When a character laughed, I laughed. And so on. The tremendous amount of empathy I had for everyone throughout the book was on a new level.
Noah’s portraits really put things Into perspective, you can see what he is feeling in that moment when he makes his imagery portraits. Jude’s quotes will forever stay important to me. Anything so simple, she can put it into a complex perspective and make you see it in a different light.
I don’t know who you are and what your background is but this book is a must read. It taught me so many things. (Especially Jude’s quotes, they have a special little place in my heart) When I read the last line it truly felt like I lost a close friend who I knew for years.
Love was truly half the story.

Wow! Where do I even start... I loved the way the reader gets all the puzzle pieces and then we get to watch the characters figure things out and talk them out long after we know (or think we know) the whole story. I love how interconnected everything that happens is. I love the way Noah describes his art. Absolutely stunning book!

(Self-portrait: Person feeling ALL of the emotions reading a book)
I acquired this book on a whim when I saw it in my audible suggestions and liked the name and cover - and I'm so glad I found it! I've never read/listened to a book stringing words together like this. The stories' secrets are thrilling and heartbreaking, full of loss and love. For me the metaphorical language really worked and as somebody who also paints in their head, I looooved Noahs POV. I highly recomment the audiobook read by Julia Whelan and Jesse Bernstein!

Third time reading this book, third time feeling like it's such an easy 5 star rating. <3

These characters feel so lived-in and real to me, and every time I get SO invested in what is going on with them.

The plot keeps my interest throughout, adding layers to the complex dynamics between Noah and Jude and their entire family, and then just hitting me right in my heart several times. I love it so much.

Jandy Nelson's writing style is forever one of my all-time favorites. The brilliant metaphors full of whimsy, humor, wit, and intense feeling breathe new life into me every time. I have countless lines tabbed as favorites, too many to all put into my book quote journal because I'd basically just be putting this entire book in there.
