Such an amazing book - and if you're on the fence about whether or not to pick it up, all I can say is this: READ. IT. I can promise you that there won't be any regrets.

When I first started this book, I had no motivation to read it and was kind of iffy about it (that might be cause I read it for my school read for the unit), but then toward the end once everything started connecting I was so interested and was getting like whiplash from it all. It was truly such a beautiful book and honestly still haven’t processed it all. I recommend it a lot, especially if you’ve dealt with Greif or loss of any kind, it truly gave me a wake up call a bit and made me feel more grateful for my brother.

It would have been an amazing book if it weren't for several problematic things I couldn't ignore. I usually don't write reviews but this book left me full of anger and disappointment.

So here are some of the things wrong about this book:
- female MC's sexual assault was hardly acknowledged
- ending felt rushed and there were so many things that needed to be talked over and resolved, it felt utterly unrealistic how everything was suddenly perfect
- and the biggest problem of all is this so called "relationship" between a MINOR (16F) and an ADULT (19M), such relationships should not be condoned and I was so disappointed with how it turned out that it completely ruined everything I previously liked about this book

I'll give you the sun was just a random book I bought from the thrift store and it wasn't really something I cared to read but OH MY CLARK GABLE this exceeded my expectations and it's now my new favorite for this year and I really don't think anything will replace it.

THE. WRITING. WAS. CHEF'S. KISS.
I've never read something with this kind of unique and beautiful and hopeful writing that made me feel like I was floating.

Every character is important to the story and the reader even the side ones. The characters are so developed and you really care deeply for each and every one.

I swear I cried about 35 times during the last 150 pages

THE RELATIONSHIPS
I usually never vibe with gay romances mostly because they're not developed enough or I don't care about the characters but NOAH AND BRIAN they were perfect. I think it's because they were so young and innocent and care free. All the relationship, familia and intimate, were so well written. The sibling dynamics between Noah and Jude were so close and they reminded me of my brother and I.

OSCARRR
Where can I get me an Oscar? That man is fine. If you stan Nikolai from shadow and bone, you will love Oscar, like he could be his brother. Who doesn't love a broken 19 year old Englishman who's fine af, rides a motorcycle, wears a leather jacket, takes pictures of Jude, CARRIES HER PICTURE WITH HIM AND STARES AT IT FOR HOURS, has scars on his face (why does that make him more attractive) and different colored eyes and of course has fluffy dark hair. He's so broken and hard to understand at first but he's such a soft sweetheart like he gives Jude his seashell that he always carries with him from his mom. Forget real men I already fell in love with Oscar.

Like idk but this was more than just a book. It gave me feelings of freedom and being true to your heart and like it's literally making me want to sign up for the drawing and sculpture class at my college. I don't think this review even begins to tell you what a glorious book this is. I have no words but this is my new comfort book. Everything about this was perfect.

I swear guys I'll read your favorite book if your read this even if it's coho or acotar whatever. I'll read it just pls give this gem that infiltrated my life a try.

DNF review: The writing style isn't for me and I was bored, confused and honestly kind of annoyed for the whole 67 that I read.

2° opportunity and finished review:
This book was really hard to get into- the writing is very metaphoric and? at the same time, kind of childish/immature and I honestly didn't knew what was happening in the first 100 pages or so. Some situations also didn't make much sense considering the character's age. The chapters were SO LONG and maybe it was too slow-paced for me. However, these characters are vibrant- they have so much life, personality and depth. The story is good (with some ups and downs), but it's definitely the characters that stand out in this book. I was also very satisfied with the ending, which definitely played a big part on my overall positive review.

oh man did i love this book… the storytelling and the way i just connected with jude and noah throughout this book had me so !! i loved how real the characters felt and how they made mistakes and grew from them and became their own people who have each other’s backs despite always being JudeandNoah with one soul. this book had me close to tears many times and crying at least twice. i absolutely adored the family relationships in books and i think this showed such real family dynamics (for the most part) ++ the relationship between noah and brian :(( i wish we got more of them honestly!! could not bring myself to give this 5 stars for the fact they still had oscar and jude end up together despite stressing a page before that he was 19 and she was 16 (+ her not telling him how old she was until he literally found out himself??)

overall a 4.5 star i really enjoyed this book and could see myself rereading in the future!!

A bit hard to read at first, doesn't get into the story until further in. But overall was very emotional and I was sad to put it down :) Definitely reccomend for an lgbtq+ book that you may be looking to read, or a slow-paced emotional book. I love Jandy Nelson!!!
