This definitely suffers from second book syndrome but it still mostly work.

What makes and partly breaks this are the characters. I loved Lucas and Matt in this and both of their relationships to Lydia but Lex and Rhett made me want to rip my hair out at times.

There's soo much miscommunication and drama drama drama in this one and yes, I know, we need some drama but the way the relationships were established just made believing it harder.

Especially with Rhett, he's already groveled to Lydia but he needs to grovel more for me! 😂 While I love the other pack members, Rhett and Lydia are what sold me on this series in the first place and I hope we see more of them in the last book! This will really only make sense if you've read ACOTAR and this but I think Woods does do a good job of explaining Rhett and Lex's motivation for everything they did and I was just thinking "damn this is what a Tamlin redemption arc could've been like", so I'll leave it at that 😉

Yes, I know, Mat and Rhett, and now Luc, too, are absolutely obsessed with Lydia but sometimes I did have to say "all this for some random girl??" outloud — and I love her, too! But again, we're supposed to believe that this pack can stand against anything and yet they keep being ripped apart by these omegas lol

Also — you're telling me what Seth has on Lex is about a building?? 😭😭 talk about a letdown

We get to meet more of Lyd's family at her brother's wedding (and boy do we get some plot here, too! 😍) and personally, I'm ready for a few redemption arcs there, too 👀

Still love these characters and ready for their HEA 🫶🏻

I enjoyed it but sometimes I feel like there isn't enough of a break from the drama bombs and it makes it a bit hard to read. Plus Lydia continuously putting herself in harms way gets old fast.

This book was a great continuation to the series and I had a hard time putting it down once I got going. Seeing the relationships grow, including the growing pains is just wanted I wanted out of this second book in the series. I cannot wait to finish this series strong, I mean who could resist after that cliffhanger.

Was incredibly annoyed with the main character in this one. She folded like a wet paper towel at anything that happened and put everyone in danger for something that was completely avoidable. It was even more frustrating because she had these amazing moments of clear communication and common sense. I love all the characters and will pick up the last book.

And at the end I was pissed they COMPLETELY abandoned the plan that they had gone over again and again. They even mentioned knowing Darren would jump her in the bathroom and how they wo uld deal with it and they IGNORED IT. After going over it again and again. I don't care that the bodyguard was outside, that was stupid.

This is a good book overall, but I’m still a little disappointed.

I love the characters, especially Alexandra (it’s so difficult to find a book where a woman is truly and fully in charge from the beginning to the end). But I feel like their relationships are under-described.  For one, we’ve still never seen Lucas and Mateo say anything directly to each other. And I’m pretty sure there’s only one scene where they interact with each other. Mateo is supposed to be gay, he even got disowned for it, but we barely see him interact with anyone other than Lydia and Seth. It seems a little like a waste. Couldn't he have a relationship with Lucas, even a small one? Frankly, I feel like if he weren't here, the story would be exactly the same... Lucas is supposed to be close to Lex, but we rarely see them interact and even less in a positive setting.

When they have a big fight and Lydia leave, Rhett and Lex stop paying attention to Lucas, going as far as avoiding him. I mean, I’m not sure what their relationship is supposed to look like, but it made me feel like Lydia is way more important than Lucas to them both. Especially since it was just a fight. A big one, yes, but Lydia was well and alive, they even knew where she was, and could reasonably guess that she was safe.

It’s my biggest issue: I feel like everyone in the pack is partial to Lydia, and love her more than the others. It feels a little unbalanced to me and unfair to the others. Lucas shouldn’t be less important than her in the grand scheme of things.

Lydia is also a bit of a hypocrite: she’s really angry when the Alphas hide something from her ‘for her security’ but meanwhile, she’s hiding something from her brother ‘for his security’.

The are some other minor inconsistencies as well. And I felt like the big fight could have used a bit of reworking because I frankly didn’t understand what was the matter. Plus, Lydia was at least partly to blame for it, and no one ever confront her about it.

But I’ll be happy to read the next book while hoping to see some things get better in it.
