“We’re two hearts … one soul. We’ll find each other again. We always will.”
“Be careful but be brave.”
“There are things far worse than death. Like her when she’s annoyed.” He jerked his chin in my direction. “She likes to stab things then. But when she gets angry? You’ll see exactly what a god is capable of.”
The Priest’s eyes darted to me, and I smiled tightly. “I do get stabby. And I’m already annoyed by a whole list of things.”

I was so excited to return back to the Blood and Ash series by Jennifer Armentrout! I mean Poppy and Casteel, I was ready for the next installment in these two's story! And, while overall I enjoyed this book, as it had many of the things Jennifer does well, dialogue, scene description and imagery, and of course beloved characers, this book had two big events we have been waiting for and it honestly let me down a bit in at least one regard. To provide clarity, this book lost a star for me with the level of ambiguity of certain choices and aspects of the plot, especially in regards to certain character relationships (IYKYK). I will say, while I was prepared for a certain event to occur. An event which I literally thought was going one of two ways, I was left uncerain, confused, and underwhelmed by the event and what it means for these character's futures. Having finished the book, I'm now left asking more questions than I should.
However, in spite of the uncertainty and ambiguity of certain plot aspects, I loved seeing these characters again! And, of course, while I loved seeing my favorites, I loved the characters that crossed over from Flesh and Fire series. I am excited to see where the plot goes next because as usual JLA gave us a big bag at the end, and now I can't wait to delve into Poppy and Casteel's next book.

However, I feel that the ending fell a bit flat to me. Idk why, but some of the major things that happened at the end didn't feel as impactful as they were intended to be. Maybe that's just me?
I still really enjoyed the book though, and I'm hoping the storyline will continue on from this point.

Apparently, you're supposed to read A Shadow in the Ember (Flesh and Fire #1) before reading this book, but I think it actually works better to read The War of Two Queens first. I wanted the
