Read the first 3? 4? chapters before I had to return it to the library. I was bored and didn't bother to renew it. The prose was too vibey to give me a good sense of what was actually happening. Also, why is this lady so obsessed with octopuses? My partner read The Half Life of Valery K and that had an octopus in it as well. Weird!!

This was clearly a “no plot just vibes” book. The majority of the book not much happens, we just follow the lives of our three main characters. In the last section things suddenly speed up and get exciting.

The cons:
  • To be honest I didn’t get most of the characters motivations for why they did certain things
  • The main conflict at the end gets resolved way too fast and easy and left some questions unanswered (at least for me)
  • I hated Graces Opinions on other women (someone should really tell her that being smart and being feminine are not mutually exclusive)

The pros:
  • The concept of a character being able to remember future events is brilliant, especially when we see the effects that unlikely events and coincidences have on that
  • The clockwork imagery and the subtle steampunk vibes were really well done and Thaniels synesthesia added a whole new and unique layer of impressions
  • I LOVE when you don’t see the romance coming right from the start and I love when the focus is on genuine companionship rather than sexual attraction and that’s exactly what this story gives you (it’s a very slow burn)

If you find slow reads difficult I can recommend trying the audiobook

How does one finish this book? It is so incredibly boring. At one point, as I’m reading it as an Ebook, I even made the text smaller just so the likelihood of something happening on a page was higher. That’s right, somehow, almost nothing happens for pages and pages. There are words, they just don’t mean anything.

Obviously, I DNF.

The author seems to be a very intelligent person, that comes through the book. It’s just a very boring book.

I enjoyed this book to begin with but I wasn’t looking forward to pick it up. It didn’t hold my interest and therefore took me a long time to read

(If this review pops up on the page, ignore it)

I haven't read it yet, but the constant appearance of its advertisements in the Metro in Paris and the London Underground while I was on vacation has firmly peaked my interest.

This book was fine but didn't grab my attention until about the 50% when it suddenly I was fascinated and couldn't put it down. Really enjoyed the plot and setting. I only wish the author had provided a little more insight into her characters emotions. I'm not sure I quite understood everything that happened at the end and need someone else to read this so I can discuss it.
