Novella

Not wonderful. But not bad either.
All in all, it was just too short. Could have been lovely had it been published as a novel.

The villain trope was nothing extraordinary. Plus, it didn't really rile me up or get to me... There was nothing exciting about the poisoning of a man we disliked. The heroes were never in any danger so I didn't really care that much.

The MCs were okay. They never really communicated with each other so that was quite disappointing. It took them too long to talk to each other about their assumptions and get to the bottom of their problems with each other.

Clan Gordon and Clan Macgregor are forging an alliance in the form of a marriage between Carrick Gordon and Analise Macgregor. As first born son Carrick will be laird one day and Analise is the widowed niece of the old Macgregor laird. Both have agreed to the marriage sight unseen. Can an arranged marriage work? Only time will tell.

This short story is both sweet and frustrating. Well, frustrating because neither Analise nor Carrick are mind readers and then they tend to assume things about each other based on past experiences. So, they end up at cross purposes. I wanted to bang their heads together a few times, but not in a bad way. I mean, they’re pretty good characters, just strangers to each other, so preconceived notions tend to trip them up. However, it all works out in the end. I’d love to read more about their slice of the world.
