Gorgeous illustrations!! Love the simple sweetness of the story about the memories/history a house has.

A simple story of what parts make up a house and where they came from. I thoroughly enjoyed the artwork! Also simple, but very effective, with some fun little animals.

There are also a couple of interactive pages, which I generally enjoy in children's books.

Beautiful book that explores the topic of what each part of a house was "before."

June 2017 - lovely and atmospheric, but maybe in a way that adults will appreciate more than kids. Ben enjoyed following the animals that reappear throughout the book, but didn't quite get the concept. He kept wanting to know who lived in the tree whenever the tree was shown with a door.

A beautiful story about where the materials came from in order to build a house. A perfect story for storytime.

I lost the narrative near the end when I read it the first time, but I didn't mind reading it again. This book has presence.

A lovely picture book about the history of a house. The art was nice, but I really like books that help kids think about where and how the objects/places in their lives came to be. You could use this for a historically-inspired story time (I'm thinking in particular of my location, the downtown central library, which has a lot of interesting building history). I think it would also be a good addition if you were doing a story time about cities and urban life. While it takes place in kind of a rural environment (although it's kind of dreamy, so not explicitly one place or another), the house-history element would be fun.
