If you want a version of Gilgamesh that is coherent and streamlined, it is this one. Through combining multiple translations into his own, Mitchell creates a really easy to understand Gilgamesh, one that is compelling and dynamic. I found the simplicity of the poetry really moving, and it was a refreshing change to read an ancient text where women who have sex outside of marriage are like...treated as human beings and not as demons.
