The age gap bothered me (I get that they didn’t DO anything, but still) & it was wayyy insta lovey. Also, these characters have no personality.

Spoiler Meet when she is 17 time skip to 20 ish and fall in love!?! Honestly the first time meeting wasn't needed. Also the comparison of it being like scandal doesn't help.

My last book of 2019 is a DNF. Very upsetting but I could not continue with this.

1. The author chooses to use her platform to shove social justice and politics at the reader. It is very in-your-face and I just could not get past it.

2. She does this in a way that is very one-sided. As though there could not possibly be any other valid viewpoints to the issue whatsoever.

3. The passive aggressive comments against white people and colonialism had me punching walls.

4. The interactions between the two main characters were cringy. So, the girl is 21, a virgin and instantly wants to give herself to this man just because she met him 4 years ago at a pipeline protest and thought he was the most gorgeous thing ever. Now she randomly bumps into him and is like..."take me now." Give me a fucking break.

And. Keep in mind. This is only 3 hours into the book.i decided to save myself the torture and DNF.

Update: I lied. After some time, I decided I would just skip the second book and wait for something new from Kennedy Ryan.

3.5 STARS

I enjoyed most of this book and look forward to the rest of the story in the next book. I love how Kennedy Ryan does her research and always highlights issues. I just got a little bored toward the end. Maybe it’s something about it being a duet and filling up space. I’m looking forward to the sequel.

I voluntarily read an early copy.

This book was a little slow for me in the beginning, but I’m glad I pushed through. When it picked up..it picked up. And the ending definitely will have me going to the next book.

I really enjoyed this book! It took a little while for me to get into it but I’m glad I kept pushing. I enjoyed hearing Lennix and Maxim’s adventures in their quick whirl-wind romance and seeing where life took them after their time together ended. Beyond the characters’ storylines, it made me more aware of struggles that the Native population faces still today, and makes me want to learn more! Can’t wait to finish this series.

This book started out really good and then felt very slow, until the massive cliff hanger at the end! This book has me wanting to start the next one immediately to know what happens next. I love the idea behind this book, but the thing that throws me off is how unforgiving Lennix is to Maxim throughout most of the book, all over one little lie. I just can’t wrap my mind around her letting 10 years pass, and missing out on so much life they could have shared all over something he can’t even control. But I still did enjoy the book and can’t wait to find out what happens next!
