This book is by no means perfect and could definitely have been a lot shorter. I didn't like how long their nervousness and overcautiousness with one another was dragged out. Good god, the cringe was VERY real for me. I'm obviously all for consent but it made certain scenes so stilted. I found myself all too often just wishing they would just go with the flow because it was crystal fucking clear that they both wanted each other. I was going to give it 3 stars but what tipped it to 4 for me was just how healthy the relationship between Eliza and Denny was. (Healthy relationships are fucking hot!) I also really loved the body positivity. The representation was so refreshing and artfully depicted.

I can't say enough positive about this latest book from Jae. After such a crappy year, this is a fantastic book to read at the end of it because it is so positive and so hopeful. Unlike other WLW romances, there really isn't any of the angst between the main characters. It is two women who build an attraction through texting and getting to know each other before moving into their relationship. Jae always has a way of building the sexual tension between characters until you are so worked up that you can't wait for them to get together. This was such an enjoyable read, is now in my favorites list, and is my favorite book of 2020.

Get it, read it, love it.

Awww

Very sweet, slow-burn romance just like you'd expect from Jae. I loved the relationship development between Denny and Eliza.

This was exactly the book I needed right now. And the narrator was pretty good, too.

Fantastic book. Probably my favourite comfort-read at the moment. The characters are well-developed, the situations that occur are very good. There are dramatic situations, but very low on the second-hand embarrassment side, which means it's easy to read. It's just the kind of quality you expect from Jae. Also incidental detail, but something I don't see often, one of the characters here is a tea drinker and she is actually shown drinking a variety of different teas at different times, which is exactly what tea drinkers do - most of us don't just drink a single variety of tea. A very small detail, but something you don't actually often see and I just loved that attention to detail.

This is a really sweet slow burn romance between a painfully shy, family-loving, soft hearted butch lesbian, and a sweet, outgoing woman who always believed she was straight. Denny receives a text intended for someone else from Eliza, complete with selfies, and the two begin an exchange that develops into a friendship and deeper feelings.

For me personally this book was a 3 star read, simply because the tropes here aren’t my favorite. I don’t love age gap, I’m not typically into butches, and the toaster oven trope (especially when the woman in question seems completely blindsided even on introspection) doesn’t really do it for me. Objectively, though, with the writing and character development, and the way Jae just gets people, I’m giving it four stars, and if those tropes are your thing I think you’ll love it.

I could not put this sweet story down once I started it. I loved the two main characters and the excellent way they communicated. The story was a pleasure from start to finish.

Kinda hate the trope of a woman who thinks she's straight falling for a lesbian, especially when she's past her early 20s, but I did like the main characters together. There were some aspects that really captured Portland and some that didn't. Overall, not my favorite Jae novel but perfectly decent for what it was.
