I rounded up because I really enjoyed it - this is entirely a survival story - Jess has had a rough couple of months and they’re about to get a whole lot tougher...

This has zero romance, it’s is 100% a story about getting through tough times, having a goal set so you don’t lose focus and just staying alive one day at a time.

Anything I say could be a spoiler so I’m not saying much

I picked up this book bc I loved Rules for Vanishing.  I actually went ahead and just bought a bunch of books by this author bc I liked the one so much.  I guess I was expecting another supernatural, spooky wilderness book. That is not at all what I got.  I would say this book is like a more adult Hatchet. It's not bad by any means. It's just not what I was expecting.  If I had actually read the synopsis or known that this was a survival story, I probably would have skipped it. This is a very very quick read with a good amount of action though.  I didn't love it or hate it.  It was fine.

I read Rules for Vanishing by the same author last year and really enjoyed that one. This one sounded like something that would scare me in a different way and it actually did. I did very much enjoy this and it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. But ffs that ending fucked me up.
SpoilerWhy? Why Bo? Tell me, Kate. WHY?!

I Am Still Alive is like an explosive Hatchet. It does not disappoint! I’m always most impressed with well researched survivalist stories that don’t let the character off easy with coincidental findings.

I thought this book was pretty good. It was an easy read and one I got through pretty quickly. The only problem with reading it fast was that her attitude did come across as whining at times. But the survivalist approach was great and somewhat realistic. She’s a city girl trying to survive without many supplies in Alaska so there is going to be a huge learning curve and I felt the author achieved that idea. There is limited swearing, some violence and gore, no romance/sexuality.

This book has been on my tbr since it came out (in 2018?) and I was very intrigued by the survival story, albeit, a little worried that it would be 'too easy' or have everything be too easy for the main character. What I got was pretty realistic (in my opinion, at least) survival story, part revenge plot, and a format that I really enjoyed.

This book is about Jess, who has been severely injured in a car crash that killed her mother, and who gets sent off to her father who lives in the remote Canadian wilderness. To top all that off, her father had been mixed up with some bad men which leaves Jess with a burned down cabin in the wilderness with limited knowledge of survival and the threat of winter.

I felt like the aspects of Jess figuring out how to survive were accurate enough. She has learned some things, figures out other things on her own, but also has resources around her from which to learn as well. All of these combined make for a good explanation for her survival and don't make things seem 'too easy'.

I also really loved Jess's character growth throughout the book. The book flips between Before and After- which really highlights her character growth and how much she has changed. I really liked her character. There are several time jumps in the book, so you don't see all of her growth on page, but I think this was executed well.

Overall, this was an engaging and suspenseful read. It kept me hooked and reaffirmed my enjoyment of survival stories.

Oh my word...this book. So many emotions. A gut wrenching page turner of survival.
