I let out a truly horrible agonised howl at the end of the final chapter before I read the epilogue, mum gave me a look that could strip paint.

I've tried... I know so many people love this series - I just... cant. Haven't been so bored and annoyed by book for a long time. Story is predictable, characters are.. well stupid and blind for some reason, main character gets kicked by life every way possible and some impossible - nope. This one is not for me.

The Fool is bae. Starling kind of irritated me. Fitz and the Fool are my tiny gay children and nobody will convince me otherwise.

General thoughts: this book was LONG. It distracted me when I was ill and bored but it was also pretty hard work. I love the Fool a lot and he brightens up any scene he's in, but he's not in, like, the first 400 pages. There's a lot of travelling. It's quite slow paced and at times I got impatient. I'm still not entirely sure what happened at the end as after a lot of buildup it seemed a little abrupt.

But. Fitz and the Fool kept me reading and there's another series, isn't there, about them? So I will have to read that one too.

I like these books but the main character is sort of dumb and also can't catch a break, which is infuriating.

The second instalment in the series and it opens with Fitz seriously debiliitated by a poison he has taken. I've been there, my poison was chemotherapy and it was pretty much like it was described in the book. Fitz is now fighting Regal more openly with the red ships preying on the kingdom. Full of interesting characters and interesting situations although it's a big book it's a quick read.

I still adore these characters, and I love the addition of Nighteyes! There is too much emphasis on romance, which made the middle of the book drag. I get actual rage at Regal in this, so much so that it was hard to read because I was so angry! Moving onto #3 immediately.

I have no words. This trilogy was one that had me reading every spare moment I had, occasionally gasping or laughing out loud because I was so engrossed. I wholeheartedly recommend this series and while I can't wait to get into the rest of Hobb's work I will dearly miss the Farseers.

4.5 because the ending was not enough.
