It's been a few years since I stayed up way too late so I could finish a book I was really into, but this happened last night with Darkness Take My Hand. I was less than halfway through the book when I decided to "read another chapter before I go to sleep". Just couldn't put it down.

Phenomenal. The writing is smart and evocative. The characters well realized. All within a crackling, brooding plot.

It's been ages since I've picked up a book that's kept me up past my bed time. If you like private detective stories and haven't read Kenzie and Gennaro, you are missing out. I can't wait to finish out the remaining novels in this series.

Absolutely fantastic book. Blows the previous book, good as it was, out of the water. The last 200 pages or so ratchet up the tension to an almost unbearable degree, AND THEN IT KEEPS GETTING HIGHER. Such good stuff.
