All My Rage is a book that I struggle to find words for. It is a story of immigrant life, a story of past and present trauma, a book of what it means to love a friend, a book of what it means to love your family. It seems almost inappropriate to rate this book, so suffice it to say this novel is beautiful, heartbreaking, and raw. It is exceptionally well written. You will need tissues.

Told from several points of view, we read from the perspectives of Salahudin and Noor who are best friends in present day California. We also read from Misbah's perspective in the past in Pakistan.  The way the timelines weave together is brilliant. In so many ways this is a character driven novel, detailing what life BIPOC life is like for Sal and Noor's families, but in the second half it becomes more plot driven and even more emotional.

I'm so glad I read this book and also glad I went into it relatively blind. It is a story about what it means to carry rage with you every day of your life, and it is an important window into an experience many of us do not have. I think this simply must be read to understand.

Thanks Sabaa for making me cry on public transport.

The author is notorious for being mean to her characters and by doing so torturing her readers. In the Ember books it has become somewhat of a meme and is funny (although I still suffered with the characters). But All My Rage is the same and yet totally different. It is fiction but the themes are very very much real. I can understand all the rage that they accumulated and I hate how unfair the world can be.

Do I have any friends here who prefer to NOT read young adult books? 🤔 If you don't/won't/can't read that genre, I challenge y'all to grab this one and read it anyway. (Check content warnings)!

All My Rage was my first fictional five star read of the year! 🫰🏼🥹🫶🏼 Wow, wow, WOW. Sabaa Tahir thoughtfully and beautifully wrote this emotionally heavy book. It was full of trauma, and it made me feel ALL the feels! I had to pause reading multiple times because I couldn't see through my tears and I didn't want to get tears on the pages. 🥲

It was one of those books that I couldn't put down because it was so good and I NEEDED to know how it was going to ended. But, at the same time, I WANTED to put it down because I didn't want it to end. 😂

I think it's a valuable book for ALL adults, but I wish it was required high school reading. There's such value in being able to discuss everything happening on these pages. That said, pecial shout out to @torriereadsalot for the buddy read on this one. There were connections and layers throughout that I would've missed had it not been for the group!

What's the last un-put-downable book you read that you also didn't want to finish because it was so good?
