THE DIVA TAKES THE CAKE by Krista Davis is the story about Event Planner Sophie Winston, who is in charge of organizing Hannah’s wedding…not her sister’s first wedding by far. The bad news is Sophie doesn’t like the groom-to-be at all and thinks her sister is making a huge mistake. The really bad news is the groom’s ex-wife is found murdered just down the street from Sophie’s home. Sophie is terrified that Hannah may be in danger from her future husband since he appears to be harboring secrets like the one that he even had an ex-wife. She sets out to find the killer and talk her sister out of marrying him since Hannah doesn’t seem concerned in the least. I enjoyed this book very much and was extremely happy to find there are many more books in The Diva series along with several wonderful recipes! One of those recipes included in the book is a cocktail Krista named “Wedded Blitz.” I love the tongue-in-cheek humor, especially if you are someone who is on marriage 2..3..or more as Hannah was in The Diva Takes the Cake.

Easy cozy series

Enjoying the series could do with a few less characters or a character list so I can refer back to remember who is who.

The book flows well and I like the way she writes. But these people are horrible people. SPOILERS

Okay, the bride can be unreasonable but her mom is just rude. I don't understand how in one breath they talk about how she is so kind to everyone and yet she is just rude to her daughter. I think they have messed up busybody and kind hearted. No one is very bright in this book. Wolf never suspects an error in his girlfriends behavior - really! What's up with the ex and then the author just drops everything. It was like she was bored or on a time limit and just ended the book

In this installment of the series, Sophie Winston is hosting and planning her sister's wedding. Sophie's family is less than thrilled with the groom. And the situation only gets more complicated when the groom's family shows up unexpectedly. When the groom's ex-wife is found murdered, Sophie sets out to find the culprit.

I enjoyed this book. However, there were a lot of characters. It was especially confusing near the end of the book. I had to back up and re-read a couple of times to make sure that I was clear on everyone's identity.

The mystery was fun and kept me guessing. I was completely surprised by the conclusion. I do plan to continue reading the series.

The character has no backbone. It was so annoying to see her just take abuse from everyone around her. I felt bad for her only a few pages because I don’t understand what kind of dummy would allow people to treat her like that. Aside from that as a professional working woman, I take offense that she would give out her services for free to a family member. A discount would be fine, but there would have been no way her sister would have treated her like trash if she would have kept her prices. I’m annoyed that her sister who is supposed to be a grown woman never apologized, or behaved like an adult. There were so many characters that I could not keep them straight. I forgot that I hated this character in the first book and decided to read the second one. I stuck with it because I expected an apology from her brat of a sister, or Natasha who makes me want to use the b word, and I never feel the need to use it. Her mother is delusional and insensitive. Why does she keep wanting her with her ex? What kind of monster would try to force her own daughter into a marriage that failed and ridicule her for him choosing another woman? It is not her job to keep him in line, if he decided to date someone else the ex should not be to blame. Reading women behaving like children, not being able to control themselves, using “love potions”, being unable to be polite, and letting people treat them like trash is sad because women are not like this. The women I know are strong, level headed, capable of making their own decisions and stand up for themselves. I cannot imagine how the author would think this is how people behave to be entertaining.

In the second of the Domestic Diva mysteries, our heroine Sophie Winston is struggling to make sure her sister Hannah's wedding goes off smoothly. Planning this wedding has been difficult for her, as she dislikes Hannah's intended, Craig, and secretly hopes that Hannah will change her mind. When Craig's ex-wife is found hanging in a neighbour's backyard, Sophie is certain that the wedding will be cancelled. However, it is not, and although Craig hasn't invited any of his family members to the wedding, his father, uncle and cousin turn up. Sophie is certain that Craig is the killer, especially when another of his relatives is found murdered, but the there are several other possible suspects.
I enjoy Davis' writing, and the little tips preceding each chapter, but I find it hard to understand why she puts up with Natasha, her ex-husband's new paramour.

I didn't love this and I didn't hate it. I was kind of meh about the whole thing. I really liked the mystery and the
Spoiler fake identities and this whole racket over stolen diamonds.
However, there were too many annoying people. Hannah was ridiculous and she would go from completely brat to loving sister with a snap, and that just didn't seem genuine. Craig, Natasha, Mordecai were just over the top and annoying. Natasha is a ridiculous character who just lives in her own world. This wouldn't be so bad as it could bring some entertainment, but it's just way too much. And everyone just puts up with it or gets snappy about it. Also the whole Mars Sophie Natasha situation is very strange and I still don't understand it. Maybe there were just too many people involved in this book, so many family, friends, strangers, that it felt super drawn out. I feel like Sophie could have gotten a lot more snooping done if so many other people weren't involved and full of demands of their own. I will try one more in this series because there were some parts when I couldn't put the book down, but others when I found myself rolling my eyes a lot.
Spoiler I know this is so knit-picky of me but sentences describing the food had WAY too many descriptors in them for me. "Juicy melon, crunchy bell peppers, vibrant lettuce, succulent shrimp...etc" I understand if it's a really wonderful meal, but every single time food it mentioned it has a ton of adjectives...even when it's just a salad."
