The most scathing critique of industrialism and capitalism came from Dr. Seuss of all places back in the 60s and here we are now.

I purchased this book from The Strand. I bought several copies to use for my Environmental Science class at the high school where I taught.

I had never read the book as a child, but I had heard of it and was recommended reading it with the class (even high school!). It went very well, despite the majority of the students being non-native English speakers. One Swedish student volunteered to read aloud, and he did a very nice job, even with all of the made-up words. I wish I remember some of the discussion that followed, but it was four years ago.

I feel like this is considered a must-have children's book for a biologist or anyone who cares about the environment. It's not my favorite environmentalist children's book, but I think it has a good message and is definitely fun to read out loud. Quite heavy-handed, and the Lorax isn't very likable, but maybe part of the message here is you (the child) should listen to people (parents and other adults) who tell you not to do something because it is hurting others.

Most books are little more than tawdry shitpiles compared to this one. Read it to your little children, and then afterward, slap them good and hard across the face with your belt to remind them that nothing they will ever accomplish can even come close to [book: The Lorax].

I think that this is Dr. Seuss at his best.
The storyline is excellent and the concepts offered are done so in such a way that anyone can grasp them.

I love this book and I love sharing it with elementry aged children. Just to read it to those choldren and get their reaction of what they are hearing is priceless.

I can't wait to read this to a young kid to teach him about the world and the importance of corporate social responsibility. Published in 1971!

It has an excellent message about protecting and caring for our environment, and how extreme greed can be destructive...

I read this for the first time since childhood after learning it was challenged, and thought to myself as to why it would be, "aww did big lumber get their feelings hurt?" and for some reason was surprised when I was correct. Anyway, five stars.

Enjoyable book to read! However, our two year old now calls things “stupid”, after the Oncler calls the Lorax stupid.
