Its always hard to rate short story collections because I enjoyed some throughly and others were just okay. I did like the themes running throughout and thought that most of the stories were beautifully poignant

Unbearably sad - and, for once, I mean it. Literally. Although narrativized, it is real suffering and pain which is conveyed in gentle dialogue here. Reading the refugee tales fills me with a rage at my own powerlessness in this cruel world. It is, inarguably, important to bring these stories, the human and humane and inhumane side, out into the open. But seldom have I ever felt guiltier about merely consuming other people's stories.
