This was really annoying to get through. And 100% unrealistic. I wasn’t sure how it was going to end because it just drug on forever. Spoiler alert: the ending was terrible. And Henry is a hoe.

Unfortunately I found this book very dull and uneventful. The characters were unmemorable and nothing really happens in this book. Theres some alcohol and sex adventures from the newly weds but very pg13. This book fell below the bar for me. This had the potential to be an entertaining book but very much disappointed. There was nothing glaringly wrong but also nothing to make it stand out.

This is the quintessential vacation read, even if you're not on the beach (I read it on a trip to Bloomington, Indiana!). Just like the characters, you lose all sense of time as you sink into the boozy, sexy, and heady honeymoon of Henry and Effie, high school sweethearts. This is definitely not a novel for the prudish or faint-of-heart--it's every bit as steamy as they say, but beautifully-written and evocative of a bygone era.

I wasn’t too sure about this in the beginning. But the characters are great and it was easy to get into. I liked the end, but was a little annoyed that it had a “happy” ending amidst turmoil.

I like novels that feature a well-drawn torrid love affair; but Henry was a jerk to do that on his honeymoon?! Especially because he and Effie married right out of high school, and sex with her was still new to him. I couldn't enjoy reading about his affair as much as if it had been twenty years later. But I really enjoyed spending the days on the boat, drinking, and swimming with their sophisticated neighbors; and I loved how everything came crashing down, at which point I saw the demise of the marriage. It was brand-new with no legs to stand on, and I didn't think either of them could forgive the other.

Wasn't for me. Interesting setting in cape may in september but the plot and characters didn't connect for me.
