Not a bad start to a very unique story about a girl who thinks she is crazy, but is not!

Sarcastic characters are my favourite. Emerson was no exception. The only thing that bothered me was the fact that she went on and on about Michael and his good looks. She did the same thing with Kaleb. But the emotions and the grief that she was feeling was stunning. Her reactions to her meds were the same. They felt so real and they really helped keep the reader into this book. All of her emotions were strong and it was understandable. It was undeniably sad what she had to go through but it was nice to know that she got through it.

I have to say that the love triangle was sorta lame. It was all about Michael and then suddenly, Kaleb pops in with a very little choice of success. I personally thought that the love triangle was unnecessary and completely predictable. Needless to say, I HATE LOVE TRIANGLES!

The plot wasn't bad. It was a little bit predictable but had enough surprises that it didn't make you feel like you wasted your time. It was slow at times but towards the end, it was really fast paced. I wish that it had been like that the entire novel, but alas, it was not to be.

Interested to see where McEntire will take us in 'Timepiece'.

Yep couldn't finish this one. Which sucks because I REALLY REALLY wanted to fall in love with this series! Sadly Em was just too...um annoying? Yeah, let's go with that.

Looks can be deceiving. This cover was kind of deceiving. I thought this was going to be a contemporary, at first, but this is actually a pretty wicked take on time-traveling. Still, there are bugs that need to be ironed with all the time traveling theories Ms. McEntire proposes. The characters were also a bit dull until the second half of the book. Still, I would love to read the sequel!

Emerson sees people who aren't really there; not quite ghosts but close. She struggles to maintain her composure, not to mention her sanity, as the occurrences become more frequent and more elaborate. Her older brother and guardian finds a new shrink for her that they hope will help with the situation. he does, but in a very unexpected way.

The end was a bit sudden, but I liked the characters and the plot twists.

This one was slow for me in the beginning - it took a good two hundred or more pages for it to really start moving on the time-traveling issue.

Also, I felt like it was trying tooooo hard to have a strong, self-sufficient heroine. I certainly love a female main character who is independent and can take care of herself, but this one just kind of annoyed me because it felt so forced.

If I had the second book right now, I'd almost certainly read it, but since it'll be a while until it comes out and I'll likely have forgotten many of the details of this one, I don't imagine I'll be hunting it down.

I cannot say enough good things about this ya debut. It's a perfect blend of fantasy, sci-fi, and romance that left me wanting more. Hourglass offers a unique take on time travel and spices things up wIth a delicious love triangle. I can't wait to get my hands on Timepiece. Definitely one of the best ya novels i've read in awhile.

Enjoyed this story which turned out to be a little different than I was expecting. Had the typical elements of YA. Looking forward to reading book 2.

I didn't finish the book. It wasn't bad, it was especially good. I just need to get done with Lost Lake and I have Hourglass on my iPad ready to read whenever. I will come back and read it, but I can't balance two books at once apparently. :(
