I don't really read crime books. Or much romance. Unless it's YA and there are paranormal creatures involved. So, this book was a step away from my usual reading material.

I loved Detective Spinelli, he is a great character. He's got a past and an attitude to match. He means well, but he's a little brash and impatient. Actually, I see a little of myself in Spinelli!

Spinelli's love interest, Shannon, I didn't care as much for. She would cry at the drop of a dime. She was absolutely a damsel. She had her own strengths, but she is the kind of woman who drives me crazy in real life. (My husband jokes that my heart is black and frozen. Ha! Maybe I'm the only one irritated by Shannon.)

The adventure was fun, but I felt like it was a little too quick. I'd rather have had some more twists and turns along the way. The ending was very enjoyable. This was a fun, fairly quick read though. I'll be sure to check out the rest of the books in this series when I have some free reading time.

* FULL DISCLOSURE: I do work for the company that publishes this book and I did design the cover.
