Definitely my least favorite so far. The romance subplot really made this one drag in some spots, but everything else was great. Keeble per usual bringing the VA heat.

The fourth instalment in the series and it is still an interesting read, my only real criticism is the added romance, I honestly have no idea where that came from and why it was added at all. Plus not only is it a romance but it is a love triangle between people who barely know each other. What exactly does Felix have in common with Ulrika except for the “amazing feeling of being drawn to each other” which is a synonym for “lazy writing!” Throw in a love struck wizard and the whole thing feels like a cheesy harlequin romance together with angst-y love blathering “I love him but I hate him but I love him but I hate him...”

Remove that bit of pointlessness and the book is true to the others, you have some Skaven, Dwarves, Humans and in this instalment Orcs, Goblins and Dragons thrown in for good measure but as per usual Gotrek is a fighting machine, only peripheral characters are killed except for Vertek who we met in the previous book. Again the world described is fascinating and has a strong “Oblivion” feel to it which I love but again, the love ruined it, really it did.
